Diving right in because the title says it all…
Wearing Your Jewellery in the Shower (or Worse… While Swimming!)
We get it. Taking off your rings, bracelets, and necklaces every time you hop in the shower is just so much effort. But trust us—water, especially chlorinated or salty water, can be a total disaster for your jewellery. It speeds up tarnishing, weakens delicate chains, and can even loosen gemstones over time. So, if you want your jewellery to last, take it off before you step in!
Not Storing Your Pieces Properly
Tossing all your jewellery in one big box? Guilty! But this is one of the quickest ways to get scratches, tangles, and damage. Delicate chains get knotted up, softer metals get scratched, and some materials (like pearls) can get ruined if they rub against the wrong thing. Instead, store your pieces in individual pouches or a jewellery box with compartments. Your future self will thank you.
Wearing the Wrong Metal for Your Skin
Ever had a ring turn your finger green? Or earrings that made your ears itch like crazy? This happens when your skin reacts to certain metals, usually nickel or lower-quality alloys. If you have sensitive skin, stick to hypoallergenic metals like solid gold, platinum, or sterling silver. And if you love a trendy piece that isn’t the best quality, try adding a clear nail polish coat to create a barrier between the metal and your skin!
Sleeping with Your Jewellery On
We hate to break it to you, but wearing jewellery to bed is not a good idea. Chains can snap, earrings can bend, and rings can get caught on your sheets (ouch!). Plus, if you’re wearing any plated jewellery, the constant friction can make the plating wear off much faster. So, take that extra minute before bed to remove your jewellery—you’ll keep it looking better for way longer.
Forgetting to Clean Your Jewellery
Just like your clothes and makeup brushes, your jewellery needs regular cleaning. Sweat, perfume, and everyday grime build up over time, making pieces look dull and lifeless. Plus, dirty jewellery can irritate your skin! A simple wipe-down with a jewellery cloth or a gentle soak in warm soapy water can work wonders.
Comment “Oops, guilty!” if you’ve done any of these before!
Until next time,
